A message to all my good friends

Hi guys and dolls,

Welcome to my blog.

Here's where to post requests for the oldies.

My main bag is popular music from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.

I will do my utmost to fulfill all requests. MP3s only, at 320kb/s wherever possible - no "lossless" formats such as ape, ogg or flac.

Please post your requests in the comments box!

Billy Costello, Voice Of Popeye

I've tried hard to get some biographical info on Costello who originated the voice of cartoon character Popeye, but unfortunately very little can be found on the net.

I had some of his 78s in the 1940s which he had recorded around 1935. I have previously shared and received some of them with fellow blogger Boot Sale Sounds, and these are all that I have.

Here they are:

John Lewis

Hi Aaronb,

Here is the John Lewis solo piano album "Afternoon In Paris".

It was recorded at Studio des Champs-Elysees, Paris on November 29th 1979.
Engineered by J.-P. Pelissier. Produced by Alain Boucanus for Dreyfus Records.

Unfortunately, I'm a greenhorn at uploading full albums and could do with some advice on how to combine all 9 tracks into one file, so until I'm able to do this I hope you don't mind downloading each track individually.

The album itself is very good but doesn't come close to the magnificence of "The John Lewis Piano". Still, as he left us so few examples of his piano work, I guess we must be satisfied with what we can get. Also, the LP was a bit of a swizz playing-time wise because there's barely half an hour of music on it.

I hope you enjoy it.

I Used To Work In Chicago

This seems to be requested fairly frequently since I first posted it. I myself had been searching years for it.

Unfortunately sendspace hosts the files for seven days only - but if anyone wants it and has missed the deadline send me a message and I'll be only too happy to repost it.

And now, especially for Rich, here is the new link:

Ode To John Keats

Our file-sharing community appears to be in a turmoil at present, due to the duplicity of rapidshare.com; the complicatedness of trying to download with savefile, or file factory or whichever name they choose to use at any given moment; and the utter obtuseness of megaupload.

Therefore, to quote "Ode On A Grecian Urn",
"Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard
Are sweeter ..."

I'm sure all of us hope that all these problems will soon be resolved.

Parisian Thoroughfare

Anonymous wants the soundtrack of Lili (1953). Film Score Magazine issued a limited edition of the complete Kaper score on their FSM label in October 2005. In the meantime he can download excerpts from here:
